This hits on the issue of transparency which is important. Maybe for all the discussion and content out there on personal branding this issue isn't stressed enough. Really the issue of transparency hits in all levels not just personal branding. If you're going to really build your personal brand be prepared to embrace <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radical_transparency" rel="nofollow">"radical transparency"</a>

Well put! It's so true, and it can go the other way too...

I have pretty much branded myself as a nerd who geeks out on helping my clients put their brands best foot forward on the web. With being pretty transparent and making my online brand authentic to who i REALLY am i've been able to win over clients who are looking for that personal connection with their designer and don't want a smooth talking suit who will sell them a pretty package, that doesn't really fit *them* ....Instead they want the goofy internet nerd whose as passionate about her business as they are about theirs.

This is great.
No matter how many people may get bothered by this, it's so true.

Wow! Awesome ending to a great post!

I agree with you. Social media has made it very easy to have a "brand" without having anything to back it up with. Great advice Beth!
